Dear friends in Christ,
What an awesome God we serve!! As always it is a blessing to share this article with you. I have been blessed to be able to spend the week at the coast and to see again how beautiful our country is. En-route we passed the Drakensberg Mountains and highest tops were white with snow! It made me realise again how time flies and that we are already entering winter again. How blessed we all are to see another winter, to be alive and to have a God who is alive and cares so much!
Whilst seeing the snow on the mountain tops and looking out over the ocean, no people, just nature, I got this kind of lonely melancholic feeling hanging over me. Have you ever felt it? That lonely feeling when you realise how small and insignificant you seem when compared to God’s wonders of nature? That got me thinking and praying and just talking to God while surrounded by nothing but His wonderful works, and once again, as every time when I draw near to God, He draws even nearer to me and that led to what I want to write about today.
Dear friends, do you realise and believe that if you have chosen Jesus, you can never ever walk alone again? The day we accepted Jesus into our lives, we gained so much more than we can even imagine. Together with a new life, free from the chains of sin (Rom 8:1-2), an eternity in heaven with God ( 2 Cor 5:1 & John 3:16), a new race to run here on earth (Phil 3:13-14) and so much more, we also gained the Holy Spirit to be our companion through this life (John 14:26 & 1 Cor 3:16). The Holy Spirit actually dwells IN us and is WITH us ALL the time. Do you realise that this literally means you can NEVER walk alone again! As long as you choose to walk with Jesus, you can never ever be alone.
We need to remember that there is a difference between feeling lonely and actually being alone. You don’t have to be alone to feel very lonely. In fact, the times in life when I feel most lonely, are mostly times when I am surrounded by loads of people, but they just don’t understand my heart, I don’t feel part of their crowd or especially when I am surrounded by people who choose not to walk the road with Jesus.
The same is true for alone. You don’t have to feel lonely to be totally alone and abandoned. If you have no one who cares about your life, whether you live or die, whether you are happy or sad, no loved ones or friends, you can be totally alone even while feeling that you are part of a fun crowd or you have your buddies all around you. You may not even realise that you are alone, until the challenging times in life hit you and you realise that all your so called friends have abandoned you and you have no one to stand by your side. My friends, if you don’t have Jesus Christ in your life, I doubt that there could be any feeling worse than the realisation that you are utterly alone.
Thank God, our awesome Lord and Saviour, whom we choose to share our lives with, that because of Jesus we will NEVER know that terrible feeling! This is something we have to understand very well, so hear me when I say it again. You never ever walk alone. No matter how lonely your road may feel at this stage, no matter how dark the season you are in at this very moment, please grab hold of the truth that the Living God, the very Creator of the ocean and the mountain tops, white with snow, is WITH you and BY YOUR SIDE. You never have to face anything in your life on your own again. From the smallest thing like the trip in your car to work, to the biggest challenge you may face in life, to the most difficult decision you have ever had to make, your God is there WITH YOU.
The problem is that we forget this and then we try to face our challenges on our own and then it makes us feel lonely and alone in our struggle. Friends, if we just remember that God is right next to us and He wants to be a part of whatever we are going through, we will never find ourselves in a situation where we falsely feel abandoned and alone.
Psalm 46:1 “God is our refuge and strength. A VERY PRESENT help in trouble.” Deut 31:8 “ And the Lord, He is the One who goes before you. He WILL BE WITH YOU, He will not leave you nor forsake you; do not fear nor be dismayed.” Josh 1:9 “…for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Matt 28:20 “… I am with you always, even to the end of the age. Amen.”
The day I decided to accept Jesus was the last day I was ever alone. I have never been alone since then and I never will. Yes, I have felt lonely, but in those times, I immediately remind myself of my Jesus standing right beside me and I talk to him. Anywhere, anytime, all of the time and that can turn the loneliest day or night into the most precious time spent with the one I love most, my best Friend, my Saviour and my Father- does that sound lonely or alone to you? No way! Never again!
Thank you God, our Father and our Friend, that You are ALWAYS with us, right here next to us. Help us to remember you in the times when we feel lonely. God, never again may satan lie to us and tell us that we are alone. We know that because of the blood of Jesus, You are in us and with us till the end of time. Thank You God. You are everything and You are ALL I need. Amen.
Be fearless in Christ.
