NOTHING TO FEAR
It is the beginning of 2017 and Father, we realise that without You, there is no us. You are God and You chose us to be your children. Father, we are honored to call You our God and Father. Here at the beginning of 2017, we bow ourselves in Your presence and declare that You alone are God! Jesus Christ, thank You for bringing us into a new year and thank You that with You, our year can only be successful. Holy Spirit we pray that 2017 will be the year when we move even closer to You, being obedient to Your guidance. In Jesus name, Amen!
Here we are already facing the middle of January 2017, and I am excited about what God is going to do. I believe that 2017 is going to be a year where we form part of bringing change in the world, through the power of testimonies.
Every year we read about how people across the world are faced with challenges such as over population, poverty, shortage of water, war, broken marriages, abuse, crime, lack of work opportunities, global warming, failed crops, diseases etc. Every year these challenges seem to become fiercer and people are dying, hungry, fighting, sick and challenged with low self-esteem. Getting to the middle of the year, you hear how people are tired, burnt out and treated for stress and depression. Driving around neighborhoods, one see how more and more people are forced to put up high walls, electric fences and install alarms, for them to not become victims of crime. Many people make new year resolutions which often when getting to the end of the first quarter, it has been long forgotten. Where am I going with all of this?
In times like these when things are so difficult, I often reflect on my relationship with God. If things of this world are so hard to cope with for people who are in Jesus Christ, then how hard is it not for those who are not in a relationship with Him? I cry often when things are tough, not because I can’t cope with it but because it is simply hard, uncomfortable and not nice. Does it challenge me? For sure! Does it break me? NO! Christ is my rock, so when the enemy shoots arrows at me or my foot slips and I fall, Christ catches me. Praise Jesus!
With this said, my heart “breaks” for what is going on in our beautiful world where people are so challenged, destroying each other and themselves, not even realizing it. I daily see how people are looking for answers and solutions in things and people, only to stand disappointed. Don’t get me wrong. We all need things and people to survive in this world, but I am referring to people turning to everything, but God. People try everything but even though Jesus Christ is real, always available and waiting for them to ask Him, they continue to deny Him.
If you are in Jesus and reading this article, facing all kinds of challenges, I want to remind you today that in Jesus Christ you have nothing to fear. Yes, things are happening all around us and the wrong choices of people impacts the way we live in this beautiful world. Hence, it “rains” down hard on God’s people, no matter of age. God’s people are falsely accused, abused and trampled on. We all live in a world where we are challenged with all sorts of crime, leaving people attacked by the spirit of fear.
I want to encourage you with God’s Word, which clearly states that He knows it is difficult to live in this world. Jesus was here and he lived this life. He knows! He was even crucified for something He was not guilty of, so that we could become the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus (2 Cor 5:21). Here at the beginning of 2017, I want to remind you that God has your back, sides and front. In fact, you are completely covered under the blood of Jesus.
His Word is His Truth and full of promises to us. Take courage in 2017, knowing that Jesus is looking out for you. Stand up and continue to face every challenge, knowing the truth of Psalm 91, which is also the promise of God for you, confirming that you have nothing to fear. Don’t worry about new year’s resolutions. Seek only one thing and that is to be closer to God. You might fall, but then just get up and go on. Choose not to fear anything and stand on God’s promise of protection in Psalm 91. Be blessed with this promise:
“He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” Surely, He will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with his feathers and under His wings you will find refuge; His faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday. A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you. You will only observe with your eyes and see the punishment of the wicked. If you make the Most Hight your dwelling, even the Lord, who is my refuge, then no harm will befall you, no disaster will come near your tent. For He will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone. You will tread upon the lion and the cobra; you will trample the great lion and the serpent. “Because he loves Me, “ says the Lord, I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges My name. He will call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. With long life will I satisfy him and show him My salvation.”
If you are not in Christ, don’t delay to ask Him into your life. The promise of Psalm 91 is also for you, when you accept Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour. You can continue to try all other things, but believe me, they won’t work. It might bring relief for a short while but it will not be permanent. Jesus is the only way for you to survive in this world. If you want to give your heart to Jesus, click here to pray this special prayer.
