Meeting at the well

The story of Isaac and Rebecca is such a captivating one of relying on God.  Abraham made his most trusted servant take an oath to go to Abraham’s country and find a wife for Isaac, but Isaac was not allowed to go with.  God told Abraham that he would send His Angel before the servant.  The servant asked Abraham what he should do if the girl does not want to come back with him.  Abraham replied that he would be cleared from that oath.  At the well, the “non-believing” servant prayed for God’s favour on his master, Abraham.  God show His favour!

The whole story can be found in Gen 24, and has a very happy ending.  But in short, the story has so many variables that it almost makes one nervous.

We often question God about His plans for us and how and when it will work out.  In todays’ terms, I can just hear Isaac saying: “Dad, you are sending your servant to pick a wife for me, following an Angel of his masters’ God, travelling trough a desert on camels’ back.  What if one of the camels’ breaks an ankle?  What if they arrive late at the well?  What if the girl sends her sister that day? What if, what if, what if?”

The point is that the meeting at the well was planned by God!  Ordained by God – a divine appointment!  God had a plan for Isaac and he has a plan for all of us.  When we submit our will to Gods’ will, we’ll meet the right person at the well.  Whether that is our spouse, of someone God wants us to interact with.

However, when we decide to get a divorce, we tell ourselves that the marriage was not built on a solid foundation.  We forget that we met someone at the well!  Allow the Holy Spirit to remind you of that meeting and how the story started, and let Him write the rest of the story with you.  Don’t give up!
