The glory, honour and praise to God my Father, Jesus my Saviour and the Holy Spirit, my Guide and Comforter.  Amen!

Walking around in the malls, driving in my car or sitting at the restaurant I realise that every person around me has a history and their story of life is unknown to me.  We so often just go about doing our own things.  Yes we are involved in church and ministry outreaches and in prayer groups, we encourage and build the people in our community, but what about when you are busy with your own things in life?  At work, we are caught up in delivering on objectives and at home we are rushing to get the washing and cooking done.  Going shopping, we are with our families and as we walk around we are sharing each other’s joy and therefore our focus is mainly on our own needs.  However, have you stopped in the middle of all the chaos and looked around you?  There are people around us most hours of the day.  Do we know them?  Do we know the story of their lives?

Taking a moment in my car on the way to work, I was sitting in traffic for almost 2 hours, having ample time to either get frustrated and upset that I was late again or be thankful that I was not in an accident.  I choose to take the time to look at the people around me and I realised that they all have a story to tell.  Now when I drive, I often ask the Holy Spirit to work in the hearts and lives of those around me.  As I open myself to the guidance of the Holy Spirit, I now pray for specific things about specific people although I do not know them.  The Holy Spirit shows me when to pray for restoration of marriages, finances and/or relationships.  I pray against anger, addiction, suicide, divorce and affairs outside the marriage.  I pray for healing of body, mind and soul and for positive self image.  Sometimes it is in general, other times it is for specific people.  Glory to Jesus!  Amen!

What about you?  Are you open to the joy, pain and hearts of the people around you?  Other than walking and driving past people, do you take time to look into their hearts allowing the Holy Spirit to guide you to pray for them or are you just caught up in your own thoughts?  Remember, people are very private in general and therefore they will not necessarily tell you what is really going on in their lives.  They will rather just smile and say that everything is alright, just so that you don’t find out what their lives are really about.  However, when you are in a relationship with Jesus and the Holy Spirit guides your thoughts and actions, it is a different story.  When you ask the Lord to open your eyes, you can see the hurt of people, a community and a nation.  You start seeing the confusion and the chaos in their lives.  When you look deeper, you see that people many times, when they smile at you, they actually only pretend that all is well, whilst hiding what is really underneath.  The only way to see deeper, is when you look at people through the eyes of Christ.  So even if it is people you do not know or even like, take a second glance at them, they have a heart and that heart will tell you the story of their life through the eyes of Jesus Christ.

Many times I have been in the presence of people in high positions and then again in just the person cleaning the passages at work.  Some have much power of the world around them, but when I look at them with the eyes of Jesus, God reveals things to me and then the person, who might not know Christ, starts feeling uncomfortable and tries to get out of my sight.  Why do I tell you this?  It is not to make me look good or get any credit.  No, it is to tell you that when you ask the Lord to give you His eyes, you start seeing His heart for the people around you.  You see the things you have missed for so long and your heart break for those around you.  The fact that people get uncomfortable in your presence is then not about you but about the Holy Spirit inside of you.

However, I want to say that when the Holy Spirit start leading you to see into the hearts of people, also pray that He guides you on what to do with what is revealed to you.  Sometimes it is just to pray, intercede and only when guided by the Holy Spirit to approach people.  This is very important.  The Spirit of God will never embarrass people, nor expect you to judge or break them down.  The Spirit of God builds up and restores.  Also remember that what God reveals to you is not for you to just tell others about it.  It is confidential.  Always trust the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

I challenge you, take time and ask Jesus to give you His eyes so that you can see everything that you have been missing for so long, the hurt of those around you, the desire to be restored.  Then you will receive His heart for people.

Jesus Christ, give me Your eyes!  Amen.

With lots of love in Jesus Name

PS:  Dear reader, please remember that the scripture used are from the New International Version.  If the scripture is read in another language and translation it might differ slightly.  A verse in the NIV might be a different one in your Bible, i.e. Ps 37:3 in the NIV might be Ps 37:4 in your bible.  This does not always occur, but happens in some instances.
