Why is God not healing me?
One of the biggest questions I get, may it be online, via our Prayer Request Page or personally, is “why God does is not heal me”. I don’t have the answer to that question and I doubt if anyone do, which is also what I normally answer everyone. What I do know is that we don’t always have control or the answer over everything, and sometimes we just HAVE to trust Him and have faith. He is ultimately God and He knows more than we do.
When we have children, we sometimes must do things for the safety of our kids, things they don’t understand, even if we try and explain it to them. God does the same to us. A lot of things that happen in our lives, we will never understand in this lifetime, but He knows EVERYTHING, and He sees the bigger picture, something we can’t. Just as we want our kids to just have faith and trust us as parents, the same it is with God.
I myself have been dealing with health issues for the last two years and have been in and out of hospitals, trauma units and doctors. In fact, the doctors STILL don’t know what is wrong. Sometimes it is hard to deal with it, but I keep trusting God. A lot of things in our lives is not God’s fault. Sometimes we are attacked by the enemy to try and remove us from the perfect relationship with God, just like it was with Job. Other times it is us, ourselves, that do things or eat things that damages our body, making us sick. Sometimes God allows this to happen, but it is always for a reason, again just like with Job.
Do we always understand? No. Does God expect from us to always understand? No. But He does want us to trust Him and have faith. Remember, we do not live for ourselves, we live for Him and we don’t live for the now, but for the life after this, for eternity with Him. He never said life was going to be easy, in fact, in John 16:33 He (Jesus) speaks and says that in this world we WILL have trouble. But He also says, take heart, for I have overcome the world.
Even Jesus had his BIG share of suffering. Not only did He go through being “bullied”, assaulted and spat on, He died a horrendous death on the cross. And Yes, even He asked God if He would spare Him the humiliation and pain, and yes, He even asked on the cross, “God why have you forsaken me”. But because God allowed it, you and I don’t have to die on a cross for our sins, because of that, you and I are free from the law, because of that we received authority through Jesus, because of that, death has been defeated and we can enter eternal life.
Does this mean we just have to accept our suffering? Does this mean we have to accept illness? No, because of Jesus on the cross we can be healed and set free, but it is ultimately His choice. We just came from a 3 months missionary trip where we saw MANY miracles happen right in front of our eyes. Many others who saw this, gave their lives to Jesus, some being Muslim. There are reasons why He sometimes allows healing and sometimes don’t.
One thing we can do is to start with ourselves. What can we as humans do to improve the situation? First, we need to make sure that we are in a perfect relationship with Jesus. Secondly, we have the authority to stand up and claim victory over our lives in Jesus name. It is always a good idea to go on our knees and ask forgiveness for our sins and make things right with God. Then we can place these challenges at the feet of the Cross, at the feet of Jesus. It is always a good idea to then go into a period of fasting and prayer, have regular communion and ask a pastor to anoint us with oil and claim healing over our bodies.
It is however very important to understand that our time is not God’s time. Now I know this is not easy. I really do know! But it’s so true. God will come through at JUST the right time. He is never late, never early, He is always on time (Romans 5:6). We don’t always see results, but that does not mean that God is not at work, making a way where there seems to be no way. Heb 11:1 says: Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance of what we do not see. Wow!
I want to give you two Bible verses which you should claim over your life. Speak it over your life daily and every time you don’t feel well. But don’t just give up and give in if things don’t happen. When Jesus told Peter to come to Him on the water, Peter did, and he walked on water! But the moment Peter started to look around and saw the clouds and wind, he lost faith and started to sink.
Don’t just give up, otherwise you lost everything you worked on. Keep the faith. Paul wrote about this so powerfully when he said: I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness. (2 Timothy 4:7-8). Here are the verses:
1 Peter 2:24: By His wounds I have been healed!
Psalm 62:2: God is my rock, I will not be defeated!
Remember, ultimately, it is up to Him whether you will be healed or not!
God bless,
