Your story matters

Your story matters

I like watching movies based on true life experiences, because we learn from it. In this e-book of which this is Part 1, I would like to tell you that your story also matters.

There was a man called William Wallace and he was one of Scotland’s national heroes, who led the Scottish Resistance Forces during the first years of the long, but successful struggle to free Scotland from the English rule. Looking at his story, you will realise what he has sacrificed and why he became a hero for the Scottish people.

We can share stories from history up until today, of people that has had influence on people. It is not just William Wallace and the like, but each of us can name people who have made a change in our lives. Yes, some have brought tremendous change to human life such as bringing us electricity, electronic devices for communication purposes and so we can name many that have made history and changed our lives.

So yes, we have heroes of today, but many also from centuries ago who have impacted our lives even until today. As shared above, we understand what William Wallace meant for Scotland. Now reading about it, it just seems like another historical topic, but back then, for the people of Scotland, it meant the world and saved them. What he did came at a price called sacrifice.

Then we have Mother Teresa who was one of the most highly respected women in the world. She was internationally known for her charitable work amongst the victims of poverty and neglect, particularly in Kolkata in India. I think most people know of her and what she has sacrificed to help others. From an early age, she gave up her own life, so that she could go and work for the Lord.

It is such a heart-touching moment every time I read of her and read of what she has done. The statements that she made resulted in her being held in high regard, for what she has done. Her story played such a significant role in setting the example of sacrifice and taking care of those in need. We cannot keep quiet about such a hero, and we have a responsibility to tell our children about her, teaching them that we have a Godly and social responsibility to those in need.

Instead of forgetting about history, we must learn from it and so also from the stories told by our elders. Everything back then and everything now happens for a reason. Just like the heroes, we all live our lives and have had experiences, leaving us with stories to tell. When we take our life experiences and that of our ancestors and put it all together, there are messages for the generations to come.

We can talk for days, draft articles, and read books of everyone who made history, hence paving the way for us. What we need to be reminded of, is that not only was it the William Wallaces and the Mother Teresas who made differences, but there are also other incredibly significant people who have impacted and are still impacting our lives.

Ecclesiastes 1:9 says that what has been, will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun.” So, let us read more, talk more and learn more from the past for we will find ourselves in similar situations again and need to know how to deal with it.

In Part 2, we will discuss more people, who through their life stories, have made a profound impact on who we are today and how we approach life.
