WHY WAIT

Many people ask for prayer of loved ones going through terminal illness or after something traumatic happened, which nearly cost them their lives.  It often happens that many people, only then, when there was no other hope, called upon Jesus, to be saved.  Yes, this is awesome, and I celebrate every salvation in Christ.  However, why do people wait until there is sickness or trauma like a near death experience, before they realise that God is real, Jesus is alive and that they need to be in a relationship with Him?

So many times, we sugar coat topics because it is regarded as sensitive, when in fact, it is a matter of life and death.  We are so focused on what people will say or do, that we tend to miss the opportunities to affect everlasting change.  Every single moment of a day, we hear, see and read of things telling us that the world will come to an end, much sooner than we think.  No one knows when the end will be (Matthew 24:36 – 44), but the signs given to us in the Bible, are happening rapidly, the one after the other.

Many people don’t know Jesus and, in many instances, those who know of Him, are not in a personal relationship with Him.  They don’t go to church, don’t meet with others in Christ and don’t strengthen and equip themselves with God’s Word (Ephesians 6:10 – 20), which is there to sustain them through all the battles of life.  Hence, many falls into temptation and lack knowledge and wisdom on how to face their enemies.  Abortions, abuse and murder are on the rise and family members turn on each other.  The one thing that saved the world, LOVE, is replaced with hatred, unforgiveness, judgement and fear.

The reality is, so many have gradually allowed themselves to move away from God and therefore, away from the Truth, as given in God’s Word.  People rather consult people instead of God, for somewhere they trusted God, but because they did not receive the answer they wanted, when they wanted it and, in the way, they wanted it, they decided to no longer belief in Him, nor follow Him.  Others were hurt by the church and instead of applying God’s Word to the situation and seeing it through, they moved away from the church.  Sad as it may be, the Bible tells us that these things will happen and unless people come to know God, accept Jesus as their Saviour and study and apply the Word of God to their lives, they will stay lost forever.

Why then, if we know this truth, do we delay and wait in making sure that people are saved in Christ?  Now, I am not the kind of person, walking up to others and simply asking them if they are saved in Christ or if they want to be saved in Christ.  I act as guided by the Holy Spirit.  I am merely saying that when you know of, visit with, work and live with people who are not in a personal relationship with Jesus, then why wait?

They need Christ now, not just when they get sick or are traumatized.  You might ask, how do you know if people are in a personal relationship with Jesus?  Here are some pointers:

  • You will automatically connect with such people, through the Holy Spirit.
  • Their actions, words and behaviour display love and they live in peace with everyone.
  • They know their true identity in Christ, forgive others and hold no grudges.
  • They are not shy to give Jesus the glory for their life.
  • When even the greatest battles come, whether financially, emotionally or physically, they continue to call on Jesus and have steadfast hope in Him, even if it means giving up their life.

With all this said, let me just say that I am not judging anyone.  All of us, even those saved in Christ, are still human, having to face the same kind of challenges and yes, making mistakes along the way.  The difference is, when you are saved in Christ, the Holy Spirit warns you not to do wrong and if you then still do wrong, He convicts you.  In Christ, you feel that conviction, repent of your sins and are set free (1 John 1:9, Romans 8:1).  However, that does not mean you can just continue to sin in the same areas.  It is about being so full of Christ, that you have no desire to commit that sin again.

Matthew 28:19 – 20 says that we must go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them and teach them everything God has commanded.  This means that we need to act, and where best to start, than with the people who are already around us?  How do we do this?

Here are some pointers:

  • Fast and pray regularly, calling their souls in for Jesus. Persevere in this.
  • Anoint your hands with oil (I use olive oil) and whilst moving around, touch them and decree and declare that the love of Jesus takes over in their hearts and homes etc.
  • Live by example. Show love, patience, goodness, kindness, forgiveness, compassion, faith and hope in Christ, no matter what happens in life.
  • Invite them to share events with you and other people in Christ, like barbeques, camping, sports events, feeding the hungry, support to children’s homes etc.
  • When sick or challenged in any way, don’t just pray alone or say you will pray for them. Ask to pray for them.  When sick, anoint them with oil (I use olive oil), lay hands on them, and claim the love, victory and the blood of Jesus over them.  In Jesus name, chase the enemy away.  Remember, even if someone says they don’t believe, you believe in God and His Power, and that is what matters.  You can’t heal anyone and can’t take their struggles away, but Christ can, and He is in you.  So, in faith, take up the action of praying and speaking positive things and healing into and over people’s lives and God who hears your prayer in faith, will answer (Jeremiah 29:12 – 14, Jeremiah 33:3).
  • Remember, nothing is impossible with and for God (Mark 10:27), so speak His Word into people’s lives, not just away from them, in front of them. If they for example say that can’t do something, then tell them that they can do everything (Philippians 4:13) and if the God of Heaven and earth said so, then so it shall be.
  • Speak the Word of God to people and let them know what God says. In order to do that, you yourself need to spend time in God’s Word in order to refer to it.  Remember, God’s Word is full of truth on how kingdoms stood strong and won wars but also how they fell and lost everything, when they moved away from God.  The Bible is full of advice, guidance, warnings, prevention steps as well as information on what has happened, is happening now and will still happen in the future.  So, use God’s Word, as it is very much alive and sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; (Hebrews 4:12).
  • Never leave a hospital room after praying for someone, not knowing if they are saved or not. This could mean life or death for them, and I am not only referring to the physical, but to the spiritual.
  • If you are not sure if someone is saved in Christ, even after spending much time with them, then have alone time with them, and ask the question directly. Allow the Holy Spirit to guide you in this.  There is really no time to waste.  If we have opportunities given by God, and we do not use it, will we not be held accountable?

With this all said, let us put a very important question on the table.  Are you saved in Christ?  Have you accepted Jesus as your Personal Saviour and hence, are you in a personal relationship with Him?  If yes, praise God!  Make sure to spend time with Jesus.  Fast, pray, study and apply the Word of God in your life and ask the Holy Spirit to guide you in bringing others to salvation in Christ.  Yes, you can’t force anyone, but you have an obligation to tell them the truth, show them the truth and give them the opportunities to come to salvation.  Even if you have given your life to Jesus, please continue to read what follows, for in the next paragraphs, you will receive guidance on how to strengthen your relationship with Christ and how you can assist others in giving their hearts to Jesus.

If you have never given your heart to Jesus, why wait for a better time?  He is calling on you today.  Jesus came to my rescue and He can do the same for you.  Accept Jesus into your life today and set yourself free!  “For God had such love for the world that He gave His only Son, so that whoever has faith in Him may not come to destruction but have eternal life (John 3:16).”  “I am the true and living way: no one comes to the Father but by Me (John 14:6).”  “If the Son sets you free, you are free indeed (John 8:36).”

Today I want to tell you that God loves you so much.  Yes, maybe you heard this before, but today is different.  HE REALLY LOVES YOU and He wants to come live inside of you, help you, guide you, rescue you, heal you and give you eternal life.  He really wants to have a personal relationship with you!

Why, you might ask?  Well, because He created you in His image (Genesis 1:27).  He only wants what is best for you (Jeremiah 29:11).  Jesus loves you so much, that He DIED FOR YOU on the cross, that you could be set free (Romans 8:2), be forgiven (1 John 1:9) and enjoy eternal life.  All you need to do, is to accept Him into your lifeJesus wants you to come to Him just the way you are, no matter who you are, where you are from, what you look like or what you did.  He loves you just the way you are, and He wants a personal relationship with you.  Revelations 3:20 says: “See, I am waiting at the door and giving the sign; if My voice comes to any man’s ears and he makes the door open, I will come in to him, and will take food with him and he with Me.”  Jesus “knocks” on our doors on a regular basis, but He does not force us to open it, He leaves that choice to us.  Today Jesus is giving YOU that choice, to open the door and let Him in!  “Come to Me, all you who are troubled and weighted down with care, and I will give you rest (Matt 11:28)”.  If you want to open that door today, if YOU want to accept Jesus into your life and want His love in your life, say this prayer:

Father God, I acknowledge that You are the one and only God.  Jesus, I acknowledge that You are the Son of God and that You came to earth, died on the cross for my sins and overcame death through Your resurrection.  Jesus, I acknowledge that You are now in Heaven and preparing a way for me.  Jesus today, I accept you into my life and my heart.  Please come and live in my heart.  Holy Spirit, I now welcome You into my heart.  Father, in the name of Jesus, please forgive me for all the sins that I have committed.  Jesus, please be what I say, think and do, so that I will know and do the will of God.  Amen!

Congratulations on accepting Jesus as your Saviour today!  Glory to God!  I believe that your life changed today.  Very important, don’t keep this news to yourself, share it with someone else who you know, also needs the love of Jesus.  Let us make sure that everyone gets to hear the good News and have an opportunity to accept Jesus into their lives.

As a child of God, daily, proclaim that Jesus is King over every area of your life.  Daily, in Jesus name, break curses that satan and people place over your life and in place thereof, proclaim that by the blood of Jesus you are saved and protected.  In Jesus name, call in the victory of Jesus Christ over yourself, your marriage, family, children, country, community, workplace, colleagues, areas where you live, your health and finances.

Perhaps you are asking, “Now what? How do I begin my journey with Jesus?” The seven steps mentioned below will give you some direction, but if you need more help, please visit and read through our motivational Articles, e-Books and Bible Study pages on www.jesustomyrescue.com.

  1. Purchase a Bible and start reading it.  Read the whole Bible.  If you have never read the Bible, I suggest that you start with the New Testament, to understand the Gospel of Jesus.  James 4:8 tells us that if we move closer to God, He will move closer to us.  The more we read the Bible, the closer we move towards Him.  God also speaks to us through the Bible and the Bible offers us all the information we need for our journey, our new life in Christ.
  2. Become imitators of Jesus.  Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 11:1 that we need to become imitators of Jesus.  This means that we need to do what Jesus did when He was on earth. If we read the Bible, we will also know exactly how to walk in the footsteps of Jesus.
  3. Join a local church or home church.  It is important to surround yourself with other followers of Jesus, as this will help you grow and create a support structure.  Followers of Jesus go through many trials and tribulations, therefore we need people in Christ, to support us.  Jesus says in John 16:33 that we will have trouble in the world, but He also said not to worry, as He already overcame the world.  The Holy Spirit is also with you wherever you go and therefore, Jesus will never leave nor forsake you (Hebrews 13:5), no matter what you go through!
  4. Get baptized.  We read in Acts 2:38: “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins.  And, you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Galatians 3:27 reads: “For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.”  Getting baptized is a powerful and spiritual step towards a greater relationship with Jesus.
  5. Resist the devil!  Oh yes, he is going to try and make you believe you are not saved and that you are still a sinner.  He will also constantly try and remind you of your past and try and take you back there, back to sinning.  In 1 Peter 2:8 we read that we need to be alert and of sober mind, because the enemy, the devil, walks around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.  We also read in James 4:7 that we need to submit to God, resist the devil and he will then flee from us. It is important to remember that when you accepted Jesus into your life, you became a new creation in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17), the old is now gone and forgotten!  Your past has been wiped out (1 John 1:9).  You have been saved and set free (Romans 8:1 – 2).
  6. Spread the gospel of Jesus.  Now that you accepted Jesus into your life, share this great news with others, helping them to experience Jesus in their lives.  In Matthew 28:19-20 we read about the expectation of Jesus over our lives: “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.  And surely, I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”  We also read in Matthew 10:8: “Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons.  Freely you have received; freely give.
  7. Have faith.  Hebrews 11:6 says that without faith it is impossible to please God.  We also read in Matthew 17:20: “If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”  It is also very important that we have and keep faith, even if we do not see results (Proverbs 3:5, Hebrews 10:35).  We read in Hebrews 11:1: “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.

Time is running out, and we will never know when it is our last moment on earth.  Let us no longer sugar coat the message of salvation, nor wait to make sure that people hear the gospel of Jesus and have an opportunity to be saved.  Without further delay, let us make sure that we, our loved ones and the people that God has placed on our paths, are saved in Christ.

Love in Christ
