Where is God?

How often have you been confronted with the question: If there is a God and if He is a loving God, then why is there so much hurt in the world, so much poverty and destruction? Most Christians face this question somewhere in their lives and sadly most are shaken by it and fails to answer. We immediately feel that we have to defend God and prove His existence, which just leaves us speechless and confused.

The first thing you have to realise is, that you do not have to prove His existence as you were never appointed to do so. Secondly don’t go into a panic, there is indeed an answer to this question and thirdly, don’t let is shake you, the enemy is only trying to make you believe that your faith in the Father is hopeless. Remember, Jesus too was interrogated by Satan (please read Matthew 4:1-11) and He was not shaken by his questions, instead He answered from the Bible. This again proves how well we should know the word of God.

This question can lead to a serious debate but it’s really quite simple. In a world where cities, countries, governments, music, games, movies and everything in between, follows Satan, that is where you will find the people who would ask: where is God? Where people are worshipping money, where people have more than they would ever need but would not pay for a homeless persons meal, where magazines are dedicated to gossip, where even a measure of every single shampoo and perfume advertisement is exploiting a woman’s sexuality, where children are shown films of witches, monsters and vampires and are made to believe that it‘s innocent when it is actually created and inspired by no one else than satan, in a world where churches has come to marry gay couples before God, where God has been thrown out of constitutions and schools and where children are led to believe that Jesus is just a fairy-tale story.

Then a world that has abandoned God asks: so where is God in all this? So to be honest, let’s just face it. That’s exactly the problem.

He’s NOT in it.

For those who follow Christ, in John 16:33 Jesus says: 33″These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.” For those who do follow Christ He will make a way even when it seems that there is no way, He will provide (Isaiah 58:11) and He will NEVER forsake you. He says too, not to fear the one who can take your body but rather the one who can take both your body and soul. (Matthew 10:28) Know too that if you have Christ as your saviour that you need not to fear for Jesus will guide you and protect you and not even death will defeat you.

However, for those who deny Him and follows the ways of evil in their homes, schools, governments or anywhere else, there is a very clear answer to their question.

Romans 1: 21 – 31 For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles.

Therefore, God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.

Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.

Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done. They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; they have no understanding, no fidelity, no love, no mercy. Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.

God has not forsaken this world; it has forsaken Him. God is not punishing this world; the people are punishing themselves as they are free to do as they please, so they will reap the fruits of their actions.

No, you cannot change the world but you can change yourself. You can bring God back into your home and relationships. You can start with your spouse, children, friends and work colleagues. Jesus is the way, the truth and the light, (John 14:6) get to know Him and start to get the people around you to know Him (Matthew 28:19).

Lord Jesus thank You for what You have done for us, although we do not deserve to be cut free from our punishment You have shown us this great love that You have taken our place. Lord Your people have fallen into their own desires and sinful ways, Holy spirit lead us and teach us where and how to reach these people so that they may come to know You Jesus and be set free from bondage. Father we thank you that you supply us in all our needs, Lord protect our minds and hearts and teach us daily so that we would not be polluted by the ways of this world. Lord we humble ourselves before You today and praise Your mighty name. To You be all the Glory, always. Amen.
