This morning the Lord led me to Hosea 3, where God tells Hosea to take back his wife, even though she is an adulteress.  It touched me deeply, because it was filled with compassion and mercy.  I questioned the Lord about the biblical view of divorce, and found Jesus quoting Moses to his disciples in Matt 19.  He clearly states that adultery is grounds for divorce.  But in contrast to Matthew 19, God specifically tells Hosea to reconcile with his wife, to give her a second chance.

I often find people getting divorced because their spouse was unfaithful.  Both my husband and I endured the hurt of an unfaithful spouse, and survived! We both had reason to bail out and even quote scripture to strengthen our case, but God said we should stay and work through it.  We found God, focused on Him and He brought us to a place where we love each other like God intended.

The point I’m trying to make, is that sometimes terrible things happen when people take their eyes off Jesus.  Even Christians make mistakes that hurt themselves and others immensely.  Although it hurts terribly, and it feels like the humiliation and sense of loss will never go away, it does get better.  It might even get ‘great’, if you allow God into your hurt.  Divorce is not necessarily the answer.   God might even have a surprise in store for you.  What if your spouse could turn into the partner you always wanted?  And maybe, you could turn into the partner your spouse always wanted.  That’s what happened to us!

I want to encourage you to know that there is always hope!  Rom 5:3-5 talks about the hope that never disappoints. God does not only restore, he re-creates!  So, whatever state your marriage is currently in, ask God to reveal His view of your marriage to you, and don’t give up until your marriage reflects that view!
