BUT IT WASN’T ME!!
Father I honour You and give You all the Glory for who I am and what I have achieved in life. Jesus you are my Saviour and the mighty One who saves! Holy Spirit you reign in my heart, I adore You! My love for You I can’t explain in words but You know how I feel.
Ever experienced being in a situation where you have been accused of doing something you were not guilty of? Ever being home waiting for a loved one, only to be trampled on when they arrive? Perhaps you are a teenager with so many expectations and dreams, giving it your best but only to hear from your parents that you could do better?
Dear friends in Christ, my message in this article is short yet it communicates a truth. In the past two (2) weeks, I have had to face more than one challenge where I have been accused of doing something that I have not been guilty of. I stood amazed at the things coming my way and could not understand why I had to go through all the hurt when I did nothing wrong. Being human, my first reaction was to get angry and start thinking negative things of the other person, perhaps telling someone how unfair that person was, hence spreading gossip. I started praying saying: “Lord, what is going on?” I then received the following answer from the Lord: “Trust me! Believe in me!” Well, I can’t explain what was going on inside of me. It was like Paul wrote in Romans 7: 19 – 20 “For what I do is not the good I want to do: no, the evil I do not want to do – this I keep on doing. Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it.” The I part wanted to rebel against these attacks, and tell the person exactly how I felt, but the Spirit inside of me, took over and peace came over me. I humbled myself and proclaimed: “Lord I trust You, I believe in You!”
What is the message I want to communicate to you dear reader? We are often going through challenges where God uses us to be an instrument. Sometimes we can clearly see His plan, but many times that plan is only known by God and then we need to trust Him. That is when faith kicks in. Firstly we should understand that sometimes we also have done or said something to upset someone else, without us realising what we’ve done. So in every situation we should reflect on what happened and analyse the actions. Where required we should also apologise for the things we have done wrong, perhaps the wrong words or even body language. Other times, it might be that although we don’t think we have done wrong, we should still humble ourselves by putting others first. That in turn could open up the opportunity for the true reason for the problem surfacing. You see, we all have emotions and a different frame of reference, with our own perceptions. Hence, the way I see things, will differ from another person’s and this is alright. We don’t all have to agree or see eye to eye on everything. One of the keys to successful communication lies in being a good listener, which in turn will allow you to see the core of the challenge. Philippians 4:5 says “Let your gentleness be evident to all.” Therefore God doesn’t expect us to have an outrage, but rather say how you feel in a gentle manner.
The thing we need to understand is that even when we can’t see God’s plan we have to believe in Him. So when you are challenged trust in Him, for He only has plans to prosper us and not to harm us. What we should remember is that even in situations where we don’t feel strong, God takes over, and deal with the situation in His way. It’s when we don’t trust Him, that we tend to take over and make a mess of the situation.
Dear reader, I chose to sit back in my situation when I was accused falsely. I chose to trust Him, and still do. He will give me the guidance to say and do the right thing at the right time, and although I feel it is unfair, He will reveal it all to me. I challenge you to trust God unconditionally. When you are falsely accused or hurt by someone for no reason at all, be calm, be gentle and above all give it over to God. What is important though is when you give it over to Him, you must not dwell on it, doubt or try to solve it yourself. Proverbs 3:5 says: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” Hebrews 10:35 says: “So do not throw away your confidence, it will be richly rewarded. Remember the words of Romans 5:3 – 5 “…suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out His love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom He has given us.”
You might say: ”But it wasn’t me!” God however says: “Trust in Me!”
With lots of love in Jesus Name
