FORGIVE AS THE LORD FORGAVE YOU

25 March 2009

Father I glorify you! Jesus you are holy! Holy Spirit you reign in my heart, you are what I breathe, think, and live for. I love you!The message for this article is very brief, yet very clear. Dear reader, forgiveness is powerful!

We often are faced with circumstances where people have offended us, one way or the other. In some cases it is more serious than others, but what we must remember is that we are all sensitive in different ways. What hurts the one might be meaningless to another. We should therefore be more careful of what we say and do as people could be hurt through a very small and innocent action, yet with huge implications.

Perhaps you are faced with challenges where you have been hurt. You might be in a relationship where the actions of your partner are hurting you more than what your heart could bear. But then again you might have been hurt by someone’s words that cut deep into your heart.

Perhaps someone said something that made them doubt your friendship or intentions, hence questioning your integrity. Many times, words cut deeper into the heart than physical actions. At work, people might be talking behind your back, making you out to be someone you are not. You might be a mom or dad who is being pushed aside by your children; after all you have done for them. Dear reader, I’m simply trying to explain that we are hurt by many things, some knowingly and others unknowingly.

Often we are faced with having to accept people’s apologies, especially at work in order to keep the peace and to allow work to flow. So we move on and say it is behind us. Then there are cases where we choose to put something aside and say it’s OK, let’s forget about it and move on. You might even have forced things out of your mind, just because you did not want to deal with it. Sometimes you just keep quiet without anyone realising that you have been hurt.

Dear reader, I want to tell you that we need to forgive! There is healing power in forgiveness. Remember that we are all humans and humans are not perfect. We hurt each other, yes sometimes knowingly and this is wrong, but also unknowingly and this is also wrong.

When we look at our own life, we realise that when we gave our hearts to Jesus, he forgave us unconditionally. This means unreservedly and completely. Jesus does not hold grudges, nor does he remind us every day of our sins. We need to be like Him in every way. Col 3:13 says, “…forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.” We should understand that to forgive sets us free and allow healing in our bodies. Now you might say how on earth do I forgive if I don’t feel like forgiving the unforgivable. Dear reader, only through the love of Jesus can you forgive. Allow the love of God to work in every area of your life. Col 3:14 says “and over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.” When Jesus lives in you, His love is in you. Claim His love in every area of your life and over every challenge that comes your way. Remember that through His love, he died on a cross for YOU! He gave up Himself for YOU!

Dear reader, allow the love of Jesus to empower you to face any challenge, whether of physical, intellectual or emotional nature. Allow His love to bring about forgiveness, which in turn will bring healing and peace into any situation.  Let’s remember what Jesus has done for us on the cross, through love, and let’s forgive as the Lord forgave us!

With lots of love in Jesus Name
