Do you believe God exists? Or do you believe in God?

Believing something is easy. When you’re standing in the kitchen and someone knocks at the front door, you believe that there is someone on the other side knocking. No faith or trust needed.

So many people believe that God exists, but does it make them a believer? No. Simply acknowledging the fact that the Lord is a living God does not make you a believer. The word believer is used for people who believe in God. Sounds like the same thing? Well it’s not.

In John 3:16 it is written: ” For God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes IN him may not die but have eternal life.”

Say for instance your brother has a big rugby match coming up and you say to him: “I believe in you.” What you mean is that you believe that he can do his best; you believe he is good at it and you want him to play that game because you trust that he is going to do well. You’re not referring to his existence.

To believe in God does not mean believing he is there. It means you should believe in him, believe he is in control of your life, believe he carries you, believe that when you pray he listens and BELIEVE that when you ask him for help He will be there. Trust Him to be in control of your life and believe that he can do it better than you can.

God only asked one thing, for us to believe in him.  Not to believe he really is in heaven, to believe IN Him. He never askes much, all He needs from you……is for you to need HIM.
