BREAK FREE AND LIVE A FREE LIFE
2 March 2009
Father God we honour You for who You are. Jesus, we acknowledge You as our Lord and Saviour! Holy Spirit, thank You for living inside of me, being my everything. Amen!
Dear reader, do you know how special you are? Jesus loves you so much! He showed His love in that He was crucified for your sins, without you having to ask. He overcame death for you, so that you will live forever! Through the cross, He has set us free from slavery and therefore we are destined to live forever and ever! Amen!
If Jesus, through the cross, have set us free in every area of our lives, why then do we sometimes still feel trapped in various areas of our life? Dear reader, remember that once you have invited Jesus into your life, you have been set free from all the sin in your life. Satan lost the battle already on the cross and when people give their hearts to Jesus, satan no longer has a hold on their life. Hence, you definitely are not trapped any longer. This is where it all begins. The truth is that Jesus has set you free from any past sin. You are a new creation in Him and this is confirmed in the book of 2 Corinthians 5:17 that says “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation, the old has gone, the new has come.” Hence dear reader, satan has no hold on you, none whatsoever.
Being born again and knowing that you are free, means you will live with Jesus forever. Your journey with the Lord then begins; hence, you start with your ministry. In this journey you will serve Him and He will allow you to work through things, minister to others and grow in faith in this process. Hence, whilst ministering for the Lord, He will develop and empower you on the way. Remember, as He says in 2 Cor 5:1, He gave you a new beginning. So when you are new in Him, you have been set free from all sin. You now have to break away from old traditions, ways of saying and doing things and start speaking and living like a child of God. If not, you will be free but will be living a life feeling trapped in your old ways. Hence, ask the Lord to guide you in re-evaluating your life. The following areas are
some examples of looking into re-evaluating your life: Believe that Jesus forgave you.
When you accept Jesus into your heart, He forgives you instantly for all the sins that you have committed. He forgive us because of His love (Ps 51:1), His grace (Ps 103:8) and His mercy (Isaiah 55:7). Your sins go out of sight (Isaiah 38:17, out of reach (Ps 103:12), out of mind (Isaiah 43:25) and out of existence (Acts 3:19). So dear reader, when Jesus forgives, it is in every respect that he has set you free (Rom 6: 6 – 9). Hence, stop thinking that He has not forgiven you or could forgive you, because this could make you feel trapped. Forgive yourself. If Jesus could forgive you, you should also forgive yourself. Perhaps you have not been living a pure life. Perhaps you feel you are not a good wife/husband, mother, friend or child. Maybe you have done things that you think is unforgivable. You need to
forgive yourself for the mistakes or wrong choices you have made. 1 John 1:9 says “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” You see, it no longer matters to Jesus what you have done. He washed you clean and there is now no condemnation (Rom 8:1). If you don’t forgive yourself, this could be one of the areas that satan could use to make you feel trapped.
Forgive others. Nothing is worse in having to forgive someone who has hurt you deeply. Perhaps you have been or are still being molested, raped, verbally or physically abused, robbed, hijacked, falsely accused, misled or lied to? Perhaps your parents never really showed interest, missed your sport games or made you feel that no matter what you did it was never good enough. These things have a great impact on who you are, how you approach your life and the choices you have made or are still making. Dear reader, one of main reasons why satan makes us feel trapped is because of unforgiveness. How many times do we say that we will never forgive or forget what this or that person has done?
We even say that we will forgive them but never forget what they have done, hence still allowing us to be trapped because of not letting go completely. We should not allow satan anything that he could use to manipulate us. Remember, we also have a responsibility to forgive those who have hurt us. You should not delay this matter. Contact people who you need to ask forgiveness for. If it is someone who has passed away, share this with God and proclaim that you do forgive that person. Once you forgive and put these things behind you, you will receive immense peace in your heart. Scripture to support forgiveness to others are Mat 6:14, Mat 18:35, Luke 11:4, Eph 4:32, Col 3:13. Live a pure life. Dear reader, with all the forgiveness out of the way, there is still one critical area that you need to attend to. Examine your way of living. Do you portray Jesus in all that you do? Does your approach, language, relationship with your children, friends and family portray Jesus? What do you do in your spare time, and who do you hang out with?
The reality is that once you have changed your life in accepting Jesus, you have to attempt every day to live a pure and holy life. Your family, friends and work colleagues will start seeing a difference in your way of doing, thinking and reacting. How else? If Jesus is in you, you’ll never be the same. Share your happiness with your family and friends so that they know that you still love them but that your choices and priorities have changed. It is however important to remember that in this process you should never judge anyone. Simply say no for the things that are not
from God, and yes for the things that will grow and develop your faith. Get involved in prayer/cell groups at church, attend church camps and be amongst children of God to uplift you. Have bible study and pray every day regularly to God. Ask the Holy Spirit daily to guide you in this, so that you don’t slip back to your old way of living.
Scripture reading that could help you include Col 1:10 – 12, 1 Peter 2:2, Rom 8:1 – 17, Rom 12, Col 3:1 – 25, Col 4:1 – 6. If you have never given your heart to Jesus, then you should do it now, as this is where freedom begins.
You can give your heart to Jesus by praying this prayer:
Father God, I acknowledge that You are the one and only God. Jesus I acknowledge that You are the Son of God and that You came to earth died on the cross for my sins and overcame death through the resurrection. Jesus I acknowledge that You are now in Heaven and preparing a way for me. Will You come live in my heart? Holy Spirit I now welcome You into my heart. Please be what I say, think and do, so that I will know and do the will of my God. Please forgive me for all my sins. I believe that I am now set free and receive eternal life in Jesus name, Amen.
Dear reader, don’t allow yourself to be trapped. God has set you free. You are free! Come on, make the right choices and live a free life. It’s been given to you already!
With lots of love in Jesus Name
