It is a raging fire, bright, brilliant, and beautiful. It breaks through the darkest darkness in a glorious display of light. Its warmth pulls you close and comforts you when the nights are cold. Its dance is passionate and captivating, and it calms your soul. It sends a signal of hope high up into the air that calls to the lost. It is destructive to all that is evil and purifying to all that is good.
It is a fire deep within you, a gateway to salvation and everlasting peace. It is light and it is life. It will grow and it will consume you if you let it. What is broken, it will heal, what is empty it will fill and what is weak it will strengthen. This world has no riches enough to buy it, no man can earn it, no man can qualify for it and not one man deserves it.
This fire is the love that made a way for us to be sons and daughters of the most high, Holy King of kings. This fire is the love that gifted us the gift of salvation, that redeemed us, rescued us and stood in our place so that we can stand in His, to be innocent in the eyes of the all-mighty God. This fire is the love of Christ Jesus.
If you cannot buy it, you cannot earn or qualify for it and if you cannot be clean enough to deserve it or dirty enough to be unworthy of it, then how would you get this fire? You only need to let it in and if you want it to grow you only need to give it more space. Give your heart, your time, and your commitment to a relationship with Him and throw out the trash.
Get rid of all the things that you don’t need, all the things that are toxic and enslaving. Whatever you love more than you love Him is space He can’t have, you need to give it to Him. He is not going to love you more or love you less, His love is limitless, the space you give Him only determines how much of it you will get to experience.
If you are reading this, then you may have this fire yourself or maybe you have only seen it in someone and you are thinking about making room to have a fire of your own, but you may be reading this today with only an ember left in you. Maybe you had this fire, but with time all the little things of the world slowly crawled back in, taking up more and more space until all that was left of that fire was an ember.
If this is where you are, then do not let another day go buy, start making space today, start giving Him your time and commitment again, push out all the things that are smothering the fire and give Jesus back this space in your life so that this fire can burn like it did before. Whatever you love more, whatever you serve more, whatever is using all your time that has no eternal benefit, give it less space or push it out completely if needed.
You may be spending all your free time Infront of the TV, or you are spending all your time on your phone, do you have too many things that just makes it impossible for you to have that time with Jesus, are the places you hang out in a world loving motivation?
Make space, do whatever you need to do, because nothing is more important than having this fire, nothing is more important than your relationship with Jesus. What He did for us was not just a little project on the side, He paid a very high price for us to be able to have this fire and the inheritance of a home with Him in His Fathers’ house.
If you have never had this fire, don’t wait, you don’t have to clean up before you come, you don’t have to “be ready”, you don’t have to be ashamed or feel that you don’t know how to do it and you don’t even have to feel that you do not know enough to start. You can come just as you are, that is where you start.
You don’t have to say fancy prayers or understand the “Christian lingo”, He knows you, He understands how you think, what you feel, why you feel the way you do, where you have been, what you have been through, what you have done, all your flaws, mistakes and thoughts and He loves you just the same! You don’t have to be perfect; you don’t even have to be good, in fact you don’t even have to be ok, you just must be willing.
Don’t try and say what you think you should be saying, just talk to Him, tell Him that you want to know Him and that you need help getting there and give it time. It may seem like a one-way communication for a long time, but you will see Him respond and when He does, in the ways that He does, that is what is going to make you want to give absolutely everything just to make more space for that fire.
The love of Jesus is above all else the most amazing thing this world will ever know, but when this love becomes personal to you, when that fire hits you, nothing else will matter more. God has said: “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” (Jeremiah 29:13).
