There are many questions left unanswered and even more left unasked. Sometimes we are scared to ask, because we are afraid that the answer will be disappointing. When we do ask the difficult questions, the people we ask are sometimes to proud just to say: “I don’t know”, so they say whatever they think is true and this leaves a lot of people confused and feeling lost.
People are fragile beings, we need reassurance constantly and when we don’t get it, we tend to fall from faith. The truth is: sometimes, we don’t know, sometimes there just is no answer, but it shouldn’t really matter, because what we do know, is that Christ came down in all His blameless glory to take our place and if you don’t get what that means, if that doesn’t say enough, then nothing ever will.
Let’s get to those hard questions. My husband and I went on a missionary trip a few months ago and in a small town we came across a man with a limp. He used one crutch to walk and you could see that he had been using it for quite some time. We approached him and asked if we could pray for healing and he said no. He said he has prayed for the longest time that God would heal his leg and many other people prayed for him as well and God just doesn’t care. I felt sorry for this man, not because an injury ruined his leg, but that an injury ruined his heart.
What is the question you have? Why is God not healing my little girl? Why has God not given me an outcome to my situation? Why can’t we get pregnant? Why won’t He take this pain away? It’s not easy, it really isn’t, sometimes it is unbearable, I know, but dear brothers and sisters, you do not really need an answer to that question, what you need is Jesus.
You see, sometimes what we have going on in our lives, consumes us and we think if we could only understand why, then it would hurt a little less, but you may never get an answer and that will keep you trapped in that circle forever. We don’t have all the answers and we never will, but we know one thing and one thing for certain, Christ gave you everything He had to give and what that means, is that He loves you, He really does and nothing else could have said it better. You need to believe that, because when you do, you will understand that He is on your side.
Press into Him, call on His presence and His comfort, cry to Your Father and let Him guide you and give you strength. Just because you are not seeing His goodness in your life right now, doesn’t mean He is not good. He did not disqualify you for all the many things you did, don’t disqualify Him for the things you don’t understand. That man didn’t just lose the full ability of his leg, he lost the full ability of his heart. He allowed what was on the outside to spoil what is on the inside.
God loved him all along and Christ made the full measure of His joy available to him, but he was blinded. This man still had everything, but he could only see what he didn’t have. Jesus said “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33). Jesus paid the highest price to heal his heart, Jesus set him free from the condemnation of this world and still he could only see his leg. Jesus did overcome the world, because He removed the power that sin had over us, and in that, He gave us hope.
This man was a slave to his brokenness and the enemy made sure to remind him never to look away from his hurt, because he knew that if he did, that he would see Jesus. The enemy doesn’t have any power over you, only what you give him. I have seen a man with a limp, in deep despair, and I have seen a man with no arms and no legs in deep joy. The difference is, Jesus. You see the enemy wasn’t really after that man’s leg, he was after his heart. Jesus took that power away, but the man gave it back to the enemy to enslave him.
You are free. You might have pain, you might be facing the hardest thing you could think possible, but don’t ask why, just look up as often as possible and surrender your heart to Jesus. You are not alone, and He will not forsake you, just believe that He loves you, because after all, He chose you even when you didn’t choose Him.
God bless you,
