DROUGHT
When people live in very dry areas, experiencing drought, they often feel tired, dehydrated and have low energy levels, hence influencing emotions. I have never experienced drought physically, but knowing from the movies that I have watched, people in desert and dry areas are constantly looking for plants, roots and ways to get water, often having to dig deep into the ground. Once obtained, it refreshes, nourishes and restores energy levels.
How many times have you driven past or visited an area, where everything is so dry and dusty and yet there is a tree standing, covered with green leaves? I have seen it many times and I realise that although everything else around it is dry, the roots of the tree is tapping its feed from the underwater rivers and streams, hence a beautiful display amidst the drought.
Dear reader, what do you do when you go through periods of drought in your life? It might be that you experience a dry period in your job, going about it day by day, without any excitement and needing a drastic change. Perhaps, it is your marriage?
You might feel that there is no excitement anymore and it has become a job, a burden, an effort and hence leaving you drained and unmotivated. Maybe, you are experiencing a dry period in your spiritual life. You read the Bible, go to church and try to live a good life, but there is something missing and you know that you need more.
Whatever it is that you are going through right now, leaving you to feel all dried up, dehydrated, tired and emotionally drained, be encouraged by the Word of God from Jeremiah 17:7 – 8 which says: ““But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in Him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.””
If you are going through a drought period, where are you tapping your energy from? Do you have to fearlessly and endlessly dig deep into the ground, with the hope of finding water in order to survive, or are your roots founded firmly in Christ, hence allowing Him to quench your thirst?
In the book of Jeremiah, it is very clear that you will experience periods of drought in your life and yes, they will surely come and go. However, always be aware of the things that you should avoid that contributes to drought and where you can, make changes to ensure that you don’t run out of water. Therefore, the need to be firmly rooted in Christ, the Living Water, who daily feeds, guides, supports and strengthens you.
If you are not rooted in Christ, where then, are you drawing your water from? Jeremiah 17:5 – 6 says: “This is what the Lord says: “Cursed is the one who trusts in man, who draws strength from mere flesh and whose heart turns away from the Lord. That person will be like a bush in the wastelands; they will not see prosperity when it comes. They will dwell in the parched places of the desert, in a salt land where no one lives.””
Dear reader, no matter what you are going through right now or whether you are experiencing drought in your marriage, work, finances, spiritual life or relationships, know that Christ is with you. He promises to those who accepted Him as their Saviour, to never leave, nor forsake them (Joshua 1:5).
Be encouraged today, knowing that with your roots firmly planted in Christ, you will be like the tree in the desert, whose leaves are always green. Although it stands on dry ground and experiences all the other effects of drought, not only does it survive, but it blossoms and produces green leaves, hence providing shade and food to others, who are severely affected by the drought.
“Jesus Christ, please take over every area of our lives and let us be firmly rooted in You, our Living Water, which never runs dry.” Amen!
Love in Christ, Princess K
