VICTOR NOT VICTIM

As I woke up from a phone ringing, I jumped out of bed, not realising that my foot was still asleep.  I fell and broke a bone in my foot.  Lying with my foot in the air, I was thinking about my life and how I have been showered with so many challenges the last couple of weeks.  Yes, we know that it is not always bad old satan to blame, as life itself happens.

However, in my bone breaking incident, I know exactly what was going on and who was gunning for me.  I have been busy with very specific things that I know God has given me to do and it involves taking off the gloves.  This in turn, means that satan gets uncomfortable as I not only shook up his plans, but in fact cancelled them out in Jesus name.  Amen!  Of course, he fights back, as just he can and many times, it hits hard, there where it really matters.

For me, through all the pain and tears of lying with this broken bone, I continued to praise Jesus as my Saviour, telling Him that I love Him and trust Him.  Yes, of course it was not nice that my bone broke, but God is very clear in His Word in 1 Corinthians 10:13, saying: “No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind.  And God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear.  But when you are tempted, He will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.”  Amen!

To know that no temptation that I have had to endure, am enduring now or might still have to endure, can ever overcome me, is very encouraging and I have decided as a daughter of The King, to take that promise from God, as my own.  God does say in Isaiah 55:11: “so is My Word that goes out from My mouth: It will not return to me empty but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.”  Our God is not a liar and therefore, I hold onto His promise that no matter the challenge, I am strong enough to go through it.  Yes, through it, for sometimes the challenge is not removed, for growth comes through a process.  The promise however, is that you are a victor and not a victim.  Amen!

Reading about David in Psalms, one realises how close David lived to God.  He unswervingly held on to the truth of who God is, his identity in God and God’s authority inside of him.  We for example read Psalm 91 and are all fired up to, in Jesus name, make declarations and take our stand against the enemy.  But, do we realise that the same man writing as an adult, a king, with so much knowledge and experience on spiritual warfare, is also the same boy, who stood in front of a giant, with his sling and 5 stones, saying in confidence: “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.  This day the Lord will deliver you into my hands, and I’ll strike you down and cut off your head.”” – 1 Samuel 17: 45 – 46.  How motivating and empowering to see God’s authority taken up by David as a boy and exercised all the way through in his life as a man and king.  For me, David is one of the best Bible mentors in spiritual warfare.

I look at David and I see a victor.  I also look at Joseph, Stephen and Paul and they are victors.  I follow Jesus, because He is the ultimate Victor, the One who overcame death.  Now, because of His blood and victory, I am also a victor.  Praise Jesus!  I was reading a daily motivational by Pastor Joseph Prince and he was writing about “fighting from victory, not for victory.”  He said: “God does not need you to defeat the devil today.  Jesus has already done it and given you the victory.  Your part is to enforce the victory by simply standing your ground, which is victory ground.  In other words, you “fight” from victory ground by standing.  You don’t fight for victory.”  AMEN!

I think it is all said.  When we are faced by what might even seem unbearable, difficult and overwhelming challenges, let us not lose focus and get ourselves into a fight with the enemy.  Know who Your God is, know who you are in Him, know your authority given by Him and use it appropriately, whilst standing on victory ground.  Remember, in Christ, you are a victor, never a victim.  Amen!
