Let’s get wasted!

This is a term known by many or almost all young people all over the world and sadly it’s something just as many find acceptable.

“YOLO”, “We’re young” or “We’re just having fun” is some of the things young people would say to doing this. Between clubs, festivals, house parties and other social gatherings, drinking, amongst two other things, is the core of the event. Society creates this idea that this is how to have fun and most people living a life like this really don’t know how to have fun without alcohol.

Let’s face it, it makes you careless, its makes you brave and it makes you a whole lot less shy, so what’s the big deal? Why are people always so uptight about it? I know, I’ve been there, I’ve seen it all. That’s why I’m going to tell you why you should step out. Not because I’m trying to sound like your mother or some old lady trying to spoil your fun, but because I’ve been there not so long ago and I’ve seen and lived through things that made me realise what 1 Peter 5:8 was warning me against.

First, I’m not giving any credit to the enemy but you have to understand that he’s not stupid and he’s not going to jump out in front of you and say: “hey, I’m your enemy, I want to make you suffer, I want to take you down with me and make you forget all about the abundant life your Father has planned for you, I’m gonna take every single chance I get to lead you astray. I’m gonna make you mine! …and you won’t even see me coming. So you wanna get a couple of beers with me?” That’s definitely not how it works. It would have been a lot easier in life if he was that dumb I know, but he’s not. He has clever plans and knows how to deceive you.

Whether you believe that he exists or not, that’s not going to change the fact that he want you dead. The Bible is not a book filled with rules of what not to do, it’s filled with warnings against the enemy. He’s a lot more interested in destroying your soul than he is in destroying your body so he’s going to do that in any way he can, but ONLY if you give him the power to do so. Remember the devil has no power over you, only the power YOU give him.

How many times have you heard of people or seen them do really stupid things, things they regret doings, things that made them look like fools and then they’d say: “yeah I now, but I was really drunk ” or “ I know, but I wouldn’t have done that if I wasn’t that drunk.” How many times have you said that? I know, it’s true, it’s not a lie, you probably wouldn’t have done it if you were sober so what you really should be saying is: “I know…, but I gave the enemy control” I gave you 1 Peter 5:8 earlier and this is what it says: “Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.” So yeah sure let’s get wasted, but just know, you’re walking into that war unarmed and he’s got you in he’s scope.

If you’re doing it to have fun, if you’re doing it to fit in, to make friends or if you’re doing it to escape your reality, he’s gonna be there to help you fall, he’s gonna be there when you do and he’s gonna be there to kick you when you’re down and if you plan on getting up, he’s gonna be there to try and keep you down (John 10:10)

Girls, you are daughters of the most high, a God that loves you dearly, a God that is proud of having you no matter what you might think of yourself. You don’t need love or acceptance from anybody else and definitely not if it means that you have to compromise yourself for it. You are a lady and you deserve respect especially from yourself! Your body is precious to God, it is His temple. (1 Corinthians 6:19) You do not have to make it cheap. Guys, you are made in the image of God, you are made to be a mighty worrier in this war we face (Ephesians 6:11). Jesus suffered so that you don’t have to. You are strong because He is your Father and you able to do all things through Him who strengthens you (Philippians 4:13)! Don’t let the enemy make a mockery out of you. You have the authority given to you by your Father.

Scripture says resist the devil and he will flee from you (James 4:7). You don’t have to lose in this war, but it’s your choice. God has defeated the enemy. You can fight this war knowing that victory is yours, you just have to claim it. Stop falling into this trap. You have the power to say no and you CAN win this war, you just have to CHOOSE victory! (John 3:16)

Don’t think drugs doesn’t count. It does! Whether you’re drunk or high it means that you’re not sober and that is just an open invitation for the devil to take you home with him. So step out and say no (Ephesians 4:27). Be what God has created you to be. Learn what He wants you to learn and live in the abundant and victories life He wants you to live in (John 10:10). You are made to live in His light and under His love.

Prayer: Lord, forgive me for the life I have lived, Father forgive me for all the times I have given the enemy the power over me. Lord thank You for the great love that You have shown me by taking my place on that cross. Lord teach me and make me a better worrier for Your kingdom. Thank you Jesus that You never give up on me. In Jesus name. Amen!

God Bless, Miryna Kruger
