Is God punishing you

Dear friends in Christ,

I am blessed to have the opportunity to write another article. We serve an amazing God and every day I have more and more to be thankful for.

The more I meet people who are facing major challenges in their lives, the more I realise that so many people who call themselves children of God don’t understand what it means to live life in faith. I meet so many people who believe God is testing them or punishing them and that is why their lives are so full of pain and anguish.

It is frightening how many people out there call themselves Christians but have no idea who God is.

It makes me think of those admin forms we need to fill in at the hospital or at internal affairs or for insurance etc. Those forms that ask you your race, age and religion. How many people tick the “Christian” box and how many of them really know God? There is a big difference between being a Christian and being a Child of God. If you believe that God is testing you or punishing you and that is why your life is in shambles, then you have a lot to learn.

The God I know is a God of love who will not allow me to be tempted beyond what I can bear.

(1 Cor 10:13.) Firstly, my bible doesn’t say God is the one doing the tempting. My bible says that God is the one deciding whether the temptation is one I can handle or not and He will not ALLOW a temptation in my life that is too big or strong for me to handle. He also says He will provide the outcome. The question you might ask is why. Why does God allow it at all?

Well, if you truly walk the road with God you will know that God has a plan for you in every way, with every situation you find yourself in, every challenge you face. If God does not take your challenges away immediately, even when you pray and have faith that He will, it does NOT mean God is punishing you. If you have given your life to God and His blood is flowing in you, His life is breathing in you, you will hear God’s voice in those situations, quietly telling you to be patient

( Rom 8:25), to be still and know that He is God (Psalm 46:10), to accept that His ways and thoughts are higher than ours ( Isa 55:8-9) and that He has a plan ( Jer 29:11).

God always provides the outcome in the right time. If it does not happen when you want it to, it doesn’t mean God is punishing you! Accept that His time is not our time! When I look back on my life, there have been many challenges and even though I could not understand the reasons for them at the time, when I look back years down the line, I can clearly see the positive things that they built up to. Every challenge I have ever faced and every bad experience, God has in His time, turned into a positive. He used the challenges that I faced to teach me wisdom, faith, truth, love and strength. He used them, in time, to give me the desires of MY heart, to make MY dreams come true.

I have dreamed of helping people, prayed for God to give me a heart for those who are suffering. He answered my prayers by using my own challenges, my own hurt, my own pain from years and years ago even, to answer my prayers of today. If I did not face those challenges when I did, I would not have the heart, the faith, the wisdom and the strength to do what I do now. If God took my challenges away when I asked Him to, instead of when He knew it was the right time, I would not be able to sit here today and testify that God is giving me the desires of my heart!! I choose having the desires of my heart, above not facing the challenges I did.

So dear friends, if you are burdened with all the challenges you have to face, if your pain is just not leaving even though you are praying so very hard for God to take it away, then I just want to leave you with this question: Are you sure that God is punishing you? Are you sure He is not listening to you and that He does not care about you? Or is it possible that His ways and His thoughts are so much higher than yours, that you cannot even begin to imagine the plans for your life that He is busy with, the undreamed dreams of your future that He is already making true, the unspoken prayers of your future that He is already busy answering by simply allowing this challenge you face now to linger a little while longer?

Dear Lord, I thank You for knowing my heart and my dreams and for hearing and answering my prayers. Please help me to accept Your ways above mine and Your timing above my own. I trust You Lord and I love You. You are everything and You are all to me. Amen.

Be Fearless in Christ.
