Good deeds do not buy salvation

Dear friends in Christ,

Thank you for choosing to read this article today. I am so blessed and thankful to God for giving me this opportunity to work for His kingdom and I pray that His Name will be exalted through everything I do.

The other day another Hollywood Celebrity passed away and the papers and magazines were full of sad reports about how this person was such a “good human being” and did so much for charity and for the less fortunate. Then it goes on to say how this person is now in a better place.  We hear this so often these days that when someone dies, people talk about how the person is now in heaven, with the emphasis on all the good things he or she has done in their lives. It makes me feel very sorry for so many people who all have this same perception of the after life, because unfortunately “good people” don’t go to heaven.

Matt 7:21- 23 “Not everyone who says to me ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven. Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your Name and in Your Name drive out demons and in Your Name perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from Me you evildoers.’”

Dear friends, we have to realise that doing good deeds and being a good person will NOT by themselves qualify you for heaven. All our good deeds mean nothing if we don’t have God.

Calling on God and telling Him about how you deserve to go to heaven because of all the good deeds you have done here on earth will surely not get you entry into paradise. Society wants us to believe if you just support a charity or two and if you give stuff to the poor once in a while or is kind to your employees, you surely deserve to go to heaven one day and I want to make sure you know that this is NOT the case.

Acts 4:11-12 “Jesus is ‘the stone you builders rejected, which has become the cornerstone.’ Salvation is found in no one else, for there is NO OTHER NAME under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”

If you want to be sure that you will enter the Kingdom of Heaven when your life on earth is over, be sure to do the following:

  • Declare with your mouth “Jesus is Lord” and believe in your heart that He died for your sins and God raised Him from the dead. ( Romans 10.)
  • Accept Him as your Saviour. (John 3:16.)
  • Confess your sins and repent. ( 1 John 1:9), (Luke 13: 3).
  • Change your ways and live according to His Will and not according to the sinful nature of this world. For if you have given your life to God, you cannot carry on sinning like before. Your life now belongs to God and you have died to the things of this world. You have a new life in God and thus you WANT to live according to His will and purpose. ( Romans 6.)

Dear friends we have to realise that if we don’t accept God and become born again we will NOT see the kingdom of heaven. We also need to realise that if we give our lives to God, it means we die off to the things of this world and we have no desire to keep on sinning. Your life and your whole view on life and the way you live from day to day changes drastically after being born again, because you realise how much you desire to do everything God’s Word tells you to do. You lose the desire to live for this world because you ARE no longer OF this world.

Yes, God tells us to do good to other people, to feed the hungry and care for the sick. We need to do all those nice and good things, but if you do them just for the sake of doing something good or because you have a conscience or because it makes you look good to the world or because you think it makes you a good person and good people go to heaven, you are very wrong indeed. Jesus Christ needs to be the centre of all you do. He needs to be alive in your heart and He needs to be your God and Saviour- then your heart will lead you to doing good things for the right reason! Then you will be saved. Then and only then will you see the Kingdom of heaven.

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank You for being my Saviour. Thank You for being my reality and thank You for being the Way, the Truth and the Life. I know that Jesus Christ is the ONLY way to salvation. You are everything and You are all to me. Amen.

Expect the unexpected and be fearless in Christ.
