Excitement

During the festive season we had the privilege to have our daughter and son-in law with us for 3 weeks.  It was such a blessing.  We visited many areas and tourist attractions in Argentina and I would like to share two of them with you.

We visited an Estancia where we found a ranch with a rich history, beauty, very old castle and a show with horses.  Needless to say, when asked for a volunteer to be pulled around the arena on cow skin, I decided to do it after some persuasion.  It was unknown, yet fun.  It was somewhat un-controlling, yet exciting.  I had an adrenalin rush for sure and felt happy when I reached the end mark.  I realised that I did something new that I never would have done before.  I took up the opportunity, followed the instructions and enjoyed the ride.  It was a bit uncomfortable and bumpy but to know that I did it and made it successfully, was victorious.

The second thing I did was to do something out of the ordinary.  I am the one who wants to plan everything to the finest detail.  On the spur of the moment we decided to travel to a coastal area, which was about 4 – 5 hours’ drive.  Now you might think what is so exciting about that?  Well you see it is not just the sites we wanted to visit, it was about me doing something on the spur of the moment, which I normally don’t do.  Oh, I did pray with my husband and we did do our calculations to make sure that we could pay for everything, but we simply decided to do something, and we did it.  It was amazing.  The drive, the people, the different culture and not even to mention that I attended my very first Orca show.  I was beyond myself, just like a little girl.  Would I have enjoyed the excitement if I did not go?  No, it took action from my side to make it happen.

Dear reader, why am I sharing these experiences with you?  Firstly, I love to tell someone how awesome our God is and that He spoils His children even when they least expect it.  Praise God!  Secondly, at the end of 2015 with my last article I experienced that 2016 is going to be a year of excitement.  According to the online dictionary, the definition of excitement is “a feeling of great enthusiasm and eagerness.” What I realised is that excitement is not always waiting for something to happen or experiencing it while it is happening but it is also making it happen.

When you know that you are going on holiday, you get excited about the idea and then you enjoy the planning part of it as well as living it out when it actually happens.  Hence, it involves action from your part as well, whether planning, execution or choosing.  What an amazing God!  He gives us so much.  We have the ability to freely plan and choose.  Sad to think that for many things in life, people choose wrongly and then live a life full of pain and suffering not realizing that simply by changing their choices in life, they can change their life forever.

I also realised that excitement has stages.  You are excited about something and then suddenly it is over, taking you from a peak to a low in emotions.  That too is life.  Don’t let it get to you.  When I had to say goodbye to the kids going back home and knowing I would only see them in months again, I was obviously sad.  However, I immediately started planning other exciting things in my life with God.  Dear reader, I’m just trying to say that you should allow yourself the emotions that go with disappointment or good times coming to an end, but don’t fall into a pit of self-pity and depression.

Use your creative mind that God gave you and build new dreams, get new focus areas and work towards a dream by living it out as you plan forward.  You might say that this is easy when life is going your way.  That is true, but Paul wrote in the Bible that he continued to praise God, throughout the difficult times, even in the times he was locked up in prison.  I am sure that knowing his calling, he knew that there were going to be difficult times in his life.  I am however, when I read the Word, convinced that every time someone in prison or those that he spoke to gave their lives to Jesus, it boosted Paul and he too felt excited about what God was doing through his life.

As a daughter of the King, the one and only living God, I chose Him at the age of 12.  Since then, my life has been very exciting.  Now living an exciting life does not mean it is easy, neither that there aren’t any challenges.  In fact, I have been “beaten up” by the world often, however, it affects me differently because Christ fights for me.  I handed everything over to Him when I asked Him to become my personal Saviour.  Sure, I have to go through the trials and tribulations of life, like everyone else, but it is never my fight.  This is very important to remember because even the unpleasant journeys once conquered, will bring excitement and growth in your life.  Who does not celebrate after a victory?

How about you?  What excites you?  Things of the world can be exciting but they should be enjoyed by weighing up whether they are to the detriment of your relationship with Christ.  Then again, others who are not in Christ merely think that as Christians we are missing out on all the fun.  Surprise, surprise!  Fun is not determined by alcohol and neither by making the wrong choices.  Why?  Because once you wake up after being drunk, you feel miserable.  Knowing you have wronged by making the wrong choices, will haunt you.  You see, satan makes all the wrong things look very attractive and once you make the wrong decisions, he will haunt you and make you feel guilty, because that is just how he operates.

Whether you are saved in Christ or not, you should know that by now, for that is the story of human life.  When you are young you want to live life and you reckon that the only fun is in the worldly things.  Parents warn you, the Bible tells you but you still bump your head.  Once you meet Christ, you realise what you have done and then change your life.  In Christ you get forgiveness (1 John 1:9) and there is no condemnation (Rom 8:1).  Furthermore, the Holy Spirit will show you in your heart that what you have done is wrong and will warn you next time not to do it at all.

Listen carefully to His voice of guidance and choose right.  When not in Christ, you will feel guilty the first few times and thereafter doing it over and over again, it becomes the norm and you feel less guilty.  You might even argue that your decisions are sound and that it is a free world with free choices.  However, trust me that if you look back on all the wrong choices you made in life, you will say that you would choose differently if you could go back in time.  We are made in God’s image (Gen 1:27), all of us and God is life and truth and love.  So as humans, we are created to do good, to speak life and to live in truth and love.  That is how we are all created.  If that disappeared, it was because of wrong choices, for you were not created like that.

Dear reader, my question today?  Are you experiencing a life of excitement because right now, you can choose to live a life full of excitement?  You have the power to make a choice.  If you are feeling down and depressed, call the reason for it by the name, bind it up in the name of Jesus Christ and cast it out of your life in Jesus name.  Don’t let the past steal the joy of today.  Forgive and let go.  Choose to be free.  Choose Christ so that every day will be a day of excitement for you.  God only has plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future (Jer 29:11).

Let Him in and trust Him.  Ask Him to change your life.  He will!  Does this mean that all the difficult in your life will just disappear?  Well, nothing is impossible with God (Mark 10:27) correct?  It might go away instantly but if you have to work through a few things it means that there is a process of healing but you will be looking at it completely different with Christ in your life.  It will no longer be your battle, but His.  He will change the way you think and you will realise your true abilities to live life differently, excitingly.  This in itself is super exciting and I can hardly control my excitement for 2016.

Come on, let’s approach this year completely different.  Let’s have faith like David who was afraid of no giant in his life.  Let’s dream like Joseph who when things went wrong, never gave up on his dream.  He trusted God unconditionally and went through the process of life but still lived that dream.  Let’s forgive like Christ, who once you ask forgiveness, forgives and no longer condemns.  Yes, life has challenges and yes many times life hurts, but life is also exciting and it changes daily.

Dear reader, live life as God intended it to be exciting for you.  Enjoy it, with Him in control of your life.  Yes, there will be difficulties but there will be sweet victories in Christ.  Trust me, you will never have a dull moment.

Every year, every month, every week, every day, every hour, every minute and every second hold some form of excitement.  My prayer and wish for you today and for every day is to make it count!

Lots of love, Princess K
